Therapy for Humans

Because being human is complicated enough.

We have feelings about our feelings, reactions to our reactions, and sometimes a pretty good understanding of what's happening without the slightest idea what to do about it.

Turns out, understanding ourselves and knowing how to navigate what we're experiencing are two very different things.

Therapy is a relationship, too.

It's one where you get to be the focus without worrying about taking up too much space, saying the right thing, or making sure the other person is okay.
And strangely enough, that can feel uncomfortable, especially if you're used to being the one who takes care of others. Having space for yourself can take some getting used to, and we can explore that together, too.
Like any relationship, trust takes time. There may be moments when we misunderstand each other, see things differently, or something doesn't quite land. You can tell us. We believe those moments offer opportunities for honesty, understanding, and repair.
Sometimes, what we experience in one relationship can change how we show up in others.

It's one thing to understand a pattern. It's another to experience something beyond it.

Trauma-informed, human-centered

Our experiences have a way of staying with us, sometimes in ways we don't even recognize. The things we've learned to do to feel safe, maintain connection, or get through difficult situations can continue influencing us long after those circumstances have changed.

We believe those responses deserve understanding rather than judgment. What once helped you navigate life might not be serving you in quite the same way anymore, and we can explore that without treating your past or present self as something that needs fixing.

Being trauma-informed also means recognizing that you have a say in how therapy unfolds. We'll explain what we're doing and why, respect your boundaries, and work at a pace that considers your needs and comfort.

And you don't need to identify your experiences as trauma for any of that to matter.

Neurodivergent-affirming

There isn't one right way to think, feel, communicate, or experience the world. And yet, many of us grow up learning that there are certain ways we're supposed to do those things.

For neurodivergent individuals, that can mean spending a lot of time trying to fit into expectations that don't always align with how their brains work. And frankly, that can be exhausting.

We believe understanding how your brain works is far more useful than trying to make it work like someone else's. That doesn't mean ignoring the challenges you experience. We can explore sensory needs, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and relationships while finding strategies that actually fit you.

Whether you have a formal diagnosis or are still figuring things out, we make room for your experiences without treating every difference as something that needs fixing.

What Our Therapy Is Not

A Conversation With a Clinical Robot

We're not going to sit there with a blank expression, occasionally nodding and asking, “And how does that make you feel?”

We bring our personalities into the room. We ask questions, share observations, challenge perspectives, and sometimes laugh about how ridiculous being human can be. We take our work seriously, but that doesn't mean we have to take ourselves quite so seriously.

Another Thing You Have to Be Good At

There's enough pressure to be a good parent, partner, employee, friend, and functioning adult. You don't need to add being good at therapy to that list.

You can have a messy week, forget everything we talked about last session, or come in with absolutely no idea what you want to discuss. We're not handing out grades, and there's no perfect way to do this.

A Place Where We Pretend to Have All the Answers

We're therapists, not experts at being human. We have training, experience, and a pretty extensive understanding of why people do the things they do. But we're also navigating the same complicated human experience as everyone else.

We're not here to tell you how to live your life or pretend there's one right way to do it. We're here to bring what we know, get curious about what you know, and figure some things out together.

There's More Than One Way to Be Human. And More Than One Way to Understand It.

We draw from several therapeutic approaches, each offering a different lens for exploring our experiences and relationships. There's no single formula for figuring out this whole being-human thing, so we'll find what makes sense for you, together.

Stone Balancing
  • For the different parts of being you.

Part of you wants to speak up. Another would rather keep the peace.
IFS helps us get to know those different responses, what they’re protecting, and what they need, so they don’t have to work quite so hard.

  • When knowing it’s over doesn’t mean it feels over.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing offers a structured way to work through distressing memories that still affect you. Preparation and coping resources come before memory processing. Together, we consider your readiness and whether this approach fits what you need.

  • When the same pattern keeps showing up.

We explore the connection between painful beliefs, feelings, and the ways you respond. Alongside noticing the cycle, we practice reconnecting with a more grounded understanding of yourself and choosing a response that better supports you and your relationships.

  • Because relationships stay with us.

We explore what relationships have taught you about closeness, trust, and having needs. The connection we build becomes a place to practice asking, disagreeing, and working through misunderstandings, with support as you try something less familiar.

So, which approach is right for me?

That's something we'll figure out together! You bring yourself as you are, and we'll bring curiosity and a few tools to help make sense of it. We'll figure out what works together, and if something doesn't quite click? No big deal. We will figure it all out.
